Section Guides

Blyth – Dean Nicolle Eucalypt Walk (2.2km)

The Dean Nicolle Eucalypt Walk (Wool Rail Trail) starts adjacent to the Blyth BMX track. After 200m the trail turns left and then right onto the old railway embankment.

The fine gravel surface continues to Poysden Road, 2.2 kms north of Blyth. Along its length there are numerous signposts with information about the eucalypts planted within the rail corridor. A lone eucalypt has been left in the centre of the path as a poignant reminder of the power of nature to renew and reclaim. There are also information signs about the railway history and the development of the Eucalypt Walk.

Background Information

Traditional Owners

We acknowledge the Kaurna people, the traditional custodians of the land and waterways on which the trail is built.

Development and Future of the Rail Trail

Wakefield Regional Council has plans to extend the trail north to Brinkworth and possibly Yacka, and south to join the Copper Trail at Hoyleton.

Rail Line History

The Blyth railway line was part of the narrow gauge Port Wakefield railway system, extended to Blyth in 1876 and then to Gladstone in 1894. It was converted to broad gauge in 1927. This  line was closed in 1989 and the tracks were removed shortly after. The Dean Nicolle Eucalypt Walk was opened in August 2025.
