The Ringwood to Belgrave Trail has made it tantalizing close to the Melbourne suburb’s bustling railway station after another 500m of concrete shared path was added as part of the Bedford Rd level-crossing removal project. Previously, trail users had to start or finish in a narrow suburban street and used the road or footpath to travel into the central business district or reach other paths.
The new section hits Bedford Rd at a signalised crossing with separate bike lane before ending abruptly at a dead-end road that serves Ringwood High School and several clubrooms. It is close to the Box Hill to Ringwood shared path and will join a railside trail towards Lilydale when the neighbouring Dorset Rd level-crossing removal in Ringwood East is completed.
Work at Bedford Rd was not due to be finished until next year but, with signage and landscaping yet to be completed, that may still be the case. Maroondah City Council is awaiting state or federal funding to complete a shared path to Ringwood Station, where a multi-storey carpark is under construction.
