Register for news updatesIn December, Logan City Council (bordering Brisbane) decided to proceed with a staged development of the 11.5km section of disused rail corridor between Bethania and Logan Village on the former 43km Bethania Beaudesert rail corridor. Unfortunately, due to funding constraints, only 8.3km of this will presently be developed under a plan adopted by Logan councillors after additional funding from the QLD State Government was refused.
In 2022 it was considered that the 11.5km section trail could be constructed for $7 million with a 50:50 contribution from the Logan Council and QLD State Government: $3.5 million each. The cost has since increased to $11.29 million. Logan Council committed an additional $4.2 million to the project but the present State Government will only honour the original $3.5 million, not the 50:50 cost sharing of the previous government. Local community trail advocates are pleased that Logan Council will commence construction in 2026, utilising the available funds.
Stage 1 plan links the existing section to the outskirts of Bethania. This provides a much-needed active transport link for residents to access the operational Bethania Train Station which services Brisbane. The Yarrabilba trail was a former 3.5km rail spur line out from Logan Village, and connects the fast-growing suburb of Yarrabilba with a sealed trail.
Logan City Council appears committed to developing the remaining 2.2km section. This year the Scenic Rim Regional Council developed the first 1.5k heading from Beaudesert towards Logan.

One comment on “Bethania Beaudesert Rail Trail Progressing”
It’s good to see a start is finally about to happen. $1:million per km- wow. This puts volunteer groups doing much out of the picture. Are we expecting too much of rail trails? Do they have to be all hot seal bitumen and new bridges? Let’s just get the trails open as quickly as possible. After the rails, sleepers and ballast were removed a couple of years ago, long sections were rideable and walkable. ( I know, I did much of the Jimboomba to Beaudesert section). Since then, neglect and signs forbidding entry have lead to overgrown conditions closing them again. Everyone runs scared of WH&S and Public Liability. Now aged 75, I fear I will never get to ride the whole Bethania to Beaudesert trail. Scenic Rim Council has done a wonderful job at the Beaudesert terminus but there needs to be urgent work to extend a workable trail out from the major centres of Logan Village, Jimboomba and Beaudesert. As seen with the BVRT and NRRT, people will use it, and local centres will benefit
