The Coast to Vines Rail Trail in South Australia now has a new side trail called the Flat to Vale Trail and while it is only 4km in length, the scenery along the trail will leave a lasting impression. The trail follows a shared use path along Pedler Creek, with tall eucalypts on one side and rambling vineyards on the other. Just prior to reaching the McLaren Flat township the trail follows Chalk Hill Road, a quiet back lane ideal for cycling and walking. The trail is sealed and flat so its suitable for cyclists of all ages.
There is also a cellar door (or two) hidden along the edge of the trail.
The trail commences from the Shiraz Trail section of the Coast to Vines Rail Trail at the location of the former McLaren Vale Railway Station, Railway Terrace, McLaren Vale.
