The duplication of Adelaide’s Main South Rd to Aldinga, and its new shared path, have given users of the Coast to Vines Rail Trail another way to get back to town. This follows the City of Onkaparinga’s completion of an associated 6km trail from the end of the Coast to Vines/Shiraz rail trails in Willunga westwards to the widened Main South Rd (B23) at Aldinga. That project received $3million from the state government and has created the 27km Southern Vales Loop Trail, giving rail trail users the chance to explore White Valley before heading north. The 37km Coast to Vines forms half of the new loop.

Lovely to now be able to do a loop back to Seaford Railway Station, rather than a there and back! Great riding for those who don't want to ride on roads.
The section of track next to the duplicated main road is pretty exposed. It could be tough on a very windy or hot day.
The sign posting from the Rose Garden at Willunga to Aldinga township is excellent, but ceases once you cross the lights into Aldinga-just when you really need it(!) as the track ends up mixing with the traffic. However, it isn't too hard to find where to go using common sense.
This loop sets the standard for safe cycling. Thank you to all that were involved.
