As part of the initial $5M for the Borumba Pumped Hydro Project benefits package, Queensland Minister for Energy and Clean Economy Jobs Mick de Brenni has announced the first wave of initiatives to be supported by Qld Hydro. Included in the package is funding for early works on Stage 2 of the Mary Valley Rail Trail extension project, subject to the outcomes of the Gympie Regional Councils ongoing Feasibility Study for the project. The long awaited study has been completed but is yet to be released.
Currently the MVRT is 5km long, connecting the small communities at Brooloo and Imbil. The proposed 16km extension will go from Imbil to Amamoor on the rail corridor towards Gympie. It is this Imbil to Amamoor section that is subject to the Feasibility Study by Gympie Regional Council. No detail is yet available on what these ‘early works’ entail, but it is hoped it will include decking of Yabba Creek Bridge at Imbil.
