Cutting th ribbon!

The weather was perfect, the speeches were excellent and there were many excited people joined together in anticipation of a fun time. The formalities were conducted standing on the platform of the old Koroit station in the sun. The Deputy Mayor of the Shire of Moyne, James Purcell, started the proceedings, welcomed visitors and school children, introduced the other speakers, and delivered a short history of the development of the trail. Jacinta Ermacora. the Mayor of Warrnambool, spoke with conviction about the benefits of the trail to the community. Thankyous to all helpers and contributors of the trail over the years was acknowledged by Ian Bodycoat, the management-secretary of the rail trail committee.
Deputy Premier, Peter Ryan, spoke enthusiastically about rail trails and his experiences of them over the past few years. Together with Ian Bodycoat and Stuart Pyers (Chairman of the rail trail committee), he unveiled a plaque commemorating the completion of the trail. All the speakers, together with two school children, then jumped down from the platform to cut a red ribbon across the trail. A group of school children and local bicycle groups rode along the trail to the accompaniment of cheering and applause.
Congratulations to all the people concerned with the development and construction, and also the opening celebrations of this long awaited trail.
