Register for news updatesO’Keefe Rail Trail Plan endorsed by City of Greater Bendigo
In March 2024 Rail Trails Australia reported that the City of Greater Bendigo (COGB) Council had put out the draft O’Keefe Rail Trail Plan for community comment. The draft plan had been created after a robust community consultation process.
It is pleasing to note that the plan has now been endorsed and adopted by the COGB at Council’s June 2024 meeting. For full details of the council agenda item and a copy of the endorsed plan head to https://www.bendigo.vic.gov.au/events/council-meeting-june-24-2024
In summary the plan will guide the ongoing development, management and promotion of the O’Keefe Rail Trail. And a very important and pleasing aspect of the plan is that it reaffirms the COGB’s commitment to continue to work with the Friends of the Bendigo Kilmore Rail Trail Group (FBKRT).
Key actions of the plan are as follows :
- Improving amenities along the Rail trail
- Improving safety along the Rail Trail
- Emphasis on biodiversity values on the trail
- Ongoing management and commitment to work with the FBKRT
- Defining level of infrastructure and trail standards
This is a great outcome and excellent example of a Local Government working with and for the community to provide a high quality and sustainable rail trail.
