This 54km rail trail is only 110km west of Melbourne and connects Ballarat and Skipton. It is described on page 97 of Railtrails of Victoria and South Australia.
Readers will be pleased to learn that extensive renovation work has commenced on the Nimmons Bridge, which crosses the Woady Yaloak Creek some 5km south west of Smythesdale. A low level crossing was constructed some years ago as the bridge was closed. Now work is proceeding on strengthening the old timber trestle bridge structure, re-decking is to be carried out and a handrail is to be installed. The work should be finished by September end. The low level crossing will remain and is recommended as a horse and rider crossing point.
The Golden Plains Shire (based at Bannockburn) manage the trail.
