It’s open!
For the Great Southern Rail Trail, 2008 has started magnificently with the opening of the new 242 metre pedestrian bridge over the Tarwin River near Meeniyan. This removes one of the two diversions from the rail trail onto the busy South Gippsland Highway greatly improving user safety and enjoyment.
The original wooden railway bridge has stood for over a century and so should this bridge, with many years to spare. It is an historic moment for past and present Great Southern Rail Trail Committees of Management, as they see the culmination of many years’ work, in providing this important link in the trail. They believe that this bridge is a symbol of more wonderful things to come for South Gippsland and the Great Southern Rail Trail.
The official opening of the bridge, an exciting family day involving the whole community, is planned for June 13th. Further information will be available on this web-site closer to the date.
