Meet half way – in the lovely Fish Creek

Travel the entire 72km of the trail, or choose to experience shorter segments. Explore the regions towns and delight in the unique stories and experiences they offer.

The South Gippsland Shire Council is pleased to invite you to official relaunch of the Great Southern Rail Trail and acknowledge the completion of the redevelopment project.
Officiating the relaunch will be Ms Harriet Shing, MP, Member for Eastern Victoria.
The total cost of the project was approximately $4.75m and was delivered over three stages. The with the State Government providing grant funding of $3 million with Council providing approximately $1.75m.
The project included a 18.5 kilometre extension of the trail from Foster to Port Welshpool and the development of the Black Spur section missing 2.6 km link between Koonwarra and Minns Road Meeniyan. This has now creates a seamless 71 kilometre trail between Leongatha and Port Welshpool in South Gippsland.
Also included in the project is the development of an extension marketing campaign and installation of promotional signage for the entire trial which showcases the regions assets.
The opening will be on Saturday 26 November 2016 and will commence at 11.30am at the John Terrill Memorial Park located on the GSRT, Corner Keanes and Falls Roads, Fish Creek .
