Register for news updatesContractors commence construction of the Tweed Valley Rail Trail
In December the Tweed Valley Council informed the public that the winning tender contractor has now set up its site office at the heritage listed Murwillumbah Station in Northern NSW, and has crews on the corridor who are commencing the construction of the Tweed Valley section of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail.
Tweed Council Project Director Iain Lonsdale said construction work is moving along and the project is due to be finished by December 2022. The first works is the restoration and resurfacing of the historic Colin Street Bridge. A compacted gravel surface of 200 metres has been constructed to evaluate the surface suitability for local conditions.
In addition, construction work is due to start at Dunbible . The historic Dunbible Bridge, a California style truss bridge, is part of this section and will become a popular point for trail users to stop and admire the structure and take photographs. Rail Trail Australia will be following the construction of this second NSW pilot rail trail, and will be featuring photos and regular updates to keep the public informed as the project moves toward the official opening in early 2023.
