Register for news updatesCommunity Celebrates the Northern Rivers Rail Trail Opening
The Tweed region in northern NSW celebrated the opening of the first section of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail in a big way last Saturday and Sunday.
Currently 24 km between Murwillumbah and Crabbes Creek, it is planned to be extended to its full 132 km length in future. Read more about this wonderful rail trail in our detailed description here. You have to experience it for yourself.
There were celebrations at Murwillumbah and all the villages on the rail trail. The constant stream of people using the rail trail affirms the projections for this rail trail and, based on the last few weeks, are expected to continue as its reputation spreads.
The weekend was a huge success, attracting hundreds if not thousands of visitors from across the region and into southeast Queensland. The tireless efforts of the Northern Rivers Supporters group have been rewarded in spades by this impressive achievement, and they should be justifiably proud.
Rail Trails Australia was proud to be part of the celebration and witness the immense popularity of the rail trail. Our volunteers spoke to hundreds of people about the potential of other rail trails in NSW and the many others open around Australia.

Having enjoyed the rail trails Victoria this is tremendous to now have our very own in northern NSW,which in my location at Evans Head is especially great.
Can’t wait to get up there and ride the trail.
