On 24 March, Rail Trails Australia hosted the 2023 Rail Trails Forum in Murwillumbah NSW, timed to coincide with the Community Celebration weekend planned by Tweed Shire Council to mark the opening of the magnificent Northern Rivers Rail Trail.
The forum heard presentations from both construction and operations management on the challenges faced , including the interruptions by two devastating regional floods within a month of each other.
Status updates were given on the two other segments of the trail currently being developed in Casino and Lismore, as well as potential plans for connecting the segments through Byron Shire. Finally, other trail proposals were presented, including the New England, Richmond Vale, and Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trails.
The Forum brought together volunteers and government from NSW, Queensland and Victoria and provided a much needed opportunity for networking and socialising both within our organisation and between us and the decision makers and stakeholders of each of these projects.
