The second Sunday in October saw perfect weather in Victoria’s north east as more than 50 bike riders gathered for the annual Tall Trestle Treadle at Tallangatta on the High Country Rail Trail. After a bus ride up to Shelley, which was Victoria’s highest railway station, we enjoyed a cruise 30km downhill to Bullioh.
However it wasn’t a quick ride as there were numerous stops to admire the restored bridges and spectacular scenery, not to mention a delicious morning tea with jam and cream on scones freshly baked that morning.
When Bullioh was reached a very filling lunch was provided at the Country Fire Authority station and more chatting. Then 16km of flatter riding back to Tallangatta alongside Lake Hume followed by afternoon tea.
This event is organised and run as a fundraiser by the volunteer groups that construct and maintain this long and picturesque rail trails.
Our thanks to them for another wonderful day and set a reminder to look out for bookings opening in our calendar next year.
