Gulgong to Rylstone Rail Trail https://www.railtrails.org.au/trails/rylstone-to-gulgong-rail-trail/ https://www.railtrails.org.au/trails/rylstone-to-gulgong-rail-trail/#respond Fri, 10 Oct 2025 06:01:01 +0000 https://www.railtrails.org.au/?post_type=trails&p=45798

This Trail is a proposed Rail Trail only at this stage.  It is not yet constructed or open.

The railway corridor is owned by the NSW State Government, and trespassing is prohibited.

The disused railway corridor between Rylstone and Gulgong passes through some very scenic countryside, and goes through the popular wine region of Mudgee in the Mid West of NSW.

The NSW Government has advised that Council may lease the non-operational rail corridor between Rylstone and Gulgong, via Lue and Mudgee, for the purpose of a rail trail. To ensure Council is meeting the needs of our community, it is seeking feedback on this opportunity.

It is mostly flat and is ideal for children and novice riders.

    Pioneer Valley Rail Trail https://www.railtrails.org.au/trails/pioneer-valley-rail-trail/ https://www.railtrails.org.au/trails/pioneer-valley-rail-trail/#comments Tue, 25 Feb 2025 00:38:45 +0000 https://www.railtrails.org.au/?post_type=trails&p=45599
    • The Pioneer Valley Rail Trail showcases lush cane farming country in tropical northern Queensland with views of the surrounding mountains. The trail in places shares space with working cane trains that crisscross the landscape. The corridor is well vegetated with trees for shelter and natural habitat.
    • Stage 1 is 7km in length and is now open (July 2025) starting in Gargett. The trail surface has been upgraded to gravel and crusher dust, and is now suitable for cyclists regardless of their experience.  All boggy/wet areas have been repaired and anyone riding the trail should enjoy the entire length.
    • A 20km back roads segment from Gargett to Finch Hatton has been mapped and is recommended for cyclists who enjoy quiet country roads. This section is mostly sealed but has some gravel.
    • The long term plan is for a combination of on-formation rail trail sections and interconnecting on-road sections between Mackay to Finch Hatton and on to Netherdale, approx 80km in length. Refer to “Further Information” below for more details.

During the wet season check the volunteer committee’s social media page for trail condition before visiting.

Lavender Bay “High Line” https://www.railtrails.org.au/trails/lavender-bay-high-line/ https://www.railtrails.org.au/trails/lavender-bay-high-line/#comments Thu, 20 Jun 2024 11:58:58 +0000 https://www.railtrails.org.au/?post_type=trails&p=40794 This potential trail links Milsons Point to Waverton on the north side of Sydney Harbour. Although relatively short, the 3km trail has excellent scenic views of Sydney Harbour and Barangaroo. It passes close to some iconic Sydney places, beginning at Luna Park and encompassing Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden and Sawmillers Reserve. It even has its own tunnel.

The rail corridor has been in the news in 2024 as potentially Sydney’s version of New York City’s excellent High Line rail trail. For more information, see this ABC news item.

The trail route can be followed generally today on foot from the northern end of Luna Park, with some on-street diversions where the tunnel is situated.
