Weather perfect. The trail is a little sandy and with the dappled light a bit tricky in some places.

Lovely gentle climbs and beautiful descents. Lots of bridges and tunnels between Meeniyan and Leongatha. The road crossing at Leongatha is terrible though!!! Such a beautiful trail ruined by this dangerous detour that should be a quick road crossing with some traffic lights or another underground tunnel.
Brunch at Kelly’s Bakery and weather changed so a cool ride back to camp at Meeniyan. The Recreational reserve has $10 per night camping, excellent.

Another great section of trail. Scenic. Good surface. Excellent ☕️ and 🍰 at Welshpool.

We find this the most protected from sun and wind. It's pretty and reliable. Meeniyan has a dependable bakery (Pandesols) and other places to eat. One cafe there serves different versions of mower-catcher mulch. I'd avoid that one. There is an IGA there.

Fish Creek has several places to eat. We eat at the roadhouse fuel station – usually getting a serve of chips. Alison Lester, Children's author, has a lovely book store there and sculptures are on display throughout the area.

Moving on to Port Welshpool and you are in for a visual treat. It is a fairly easy route except for the big hill to foster. the cattle crossings can be deep in manure, but maybe that's all part of the experience.

If instead you go from Meeniyan up to hill to Leongatha, there are plenty of places to eat and there are toilets. look out for fairy houses at the bottoms of some trees.
Traveling from Leongatha to Korumburra is still not great.

Mostly a firm surface with some sandier areas about a third of the way through . Three trees laying across the trail from recent storms . Have rode from Leongatha to Port Welshpool previously and the trails have of greatly quality .

Hi Ewen, I walked this yesterday and it seems even the trailriders are struggling to find the northern end off Napier Rd! It's very close to 4km from Hyland Hwy and not too hard once you spot the large, staked logs blocking it to vehicles. It seems the railway ran close to Napier Rd for some distance eastward

Ended up running into a fourth day with the section from Alberton to Yarram. The trailhead at Yarram is looking good but it seems the toilets disappeared with the old station building and the route into town should be a decent shared path.

It starts at the Napier Rd bridge, where it is signposted, but the other end is difficult to locate. Well worth heading out and doing the 2 km walk one way.

I’m looking forward to riding the rest of the trail one day. We did 3 in 3 days - very enjoyable - Bass, Great Ridge, Great Southern. 👍]]> Rode yesterday. Lucky with the weather – still, cool & fine. Rode Port Albert to Port Welshpool return – 70kms on our Gravelies. Trail in tip top condition – not a corrugation or pothole to be seen on this finely crushed gravel trail – a real credit to everyone involved with its construction & maintenance. Thank you. Looks like new concrete culvert bridges have just been installed – fantastic. There are a handful of gates ; however, no issue. We probably could’ve ridden our roadies without issue. Great scenery along the way – especially of Wilson’s Prom & the jetty at Port Welshpool. I only gave 4/5 from a purely selfish reason. The stretch between Alberton & Welshpool is 20km of straight, flat (1%) trail – as a rail trail, by name & nature should be. Sitting in the one position for an hour was a bit monotonous – sorry, overly delicate I know 🤣. I’m looking forward to riding the rest of the trail one day. We did 3 in 3 days – very enjoyable – Bass, Great Ridge, Great Southern. 👍
